Workshop Themes

Pagpasa

“to pass down”

In the Filipinx tradition, wisdom, practices, and stories are passed down through generations, shaping identities and guiding values. In healthcare, this act of passing down knowledge becomes essential for equipping future generations with the tools to navigate evolving health challenges while honoring the cultural legacies that ground them. Pagpasa focuses on intergenerational learning, mentorship, and the transmission of culturally-informed practices to strengthen the future of Filipinx healthcare.

Paglikha

“to create”

Creation is a transformative act that bridges the gap between tradition and innovation. For Filipinx healthcare providers, creativity is a cornerstone of cultural adaptation, where novel approaches are developed to address gaps in medical care while maintaining cultural authenticity. Paglikha celebrates the ingenuity of the Filipinx spirit in designing solutions that are as innovative as they are rooted in heritage.

Pagpapalusog

“to nourish”

Nourishment goes beyond physical sustenance; it involves emotional, cultural, and spiritual feeding that strengthens community bonds and individual well-being. Nourishing communities with Filipinx food, culture, and healthcare practices fuels connections, healing, and shared resilience. Pagpapalusog underscores the importance of holistic care that nourishes not just the body but also the mind and spirit, cultivating a sense of interconnectedness within Filipinx healthcare.

Pagpapatalas

“to sharpen”

Education is a lifelong journey that empowers individuals to bridge gaps, challenge inequities, and build better futures. In Pagpapatalas, the Filipinx community’s commitment to learning becomes a vehicle for resilience and progress in healthcare, where shared knowledge leads to meaningful change.

  • Tita Talks: Bridging Generations Through Sexual and Reproductive Health Conversations

Sexual and reproductive health topics are considered taboo within Filipino families because of the strong influence of Catholicism and cultural values such as hiya; consequently, parents avoid discussing them with their children. In Filipino American communities, "Titas" (aunts or auntie figures, whether by blood or social connection) are trusted sources of knowledge and guidance. Yet, their role in sexual and reproductive health communication remains untapped. This session highlights the potential of Titas as key stakeholders in culturally relevant interventions to foster healthier outcomes and stronger family and community connections.

    Brewing Heritage

MinoryaCo is a Liberica coffee micro-farm located in Lipa City, Philippines. We aim to revive and preserve one of the world’s most unique beans. Our mission is to carry on the legacy of Filipino coffee (Kapeng Barako) by planting throughout Lipa. Filipino Coffee was the first imported beans arrived in the U.S. in 1865. Liberica coffee can endure heat and cold climates, regarded as the Future of Coffee beans.

Our coffee has been seen at the James Beard, Foundation, Vogue Philippines, and serving as a coffee bar resident at Guild House Hotel, a Michelin Guide Hotel.

Katrina Sobredilla, a top mixologist globally, has created a unique syrup blending the culture of the Philippines with French influences. Her vision was to craft a syrup that would elevate not only cocktails but also everyday experiences. In collaboration with Gina, Katrina infused Filipino accents into Minoryaco coffee, creating a rich, cultural fusion in every drop. Brewing community and culture with every sip.

Decolonizing and Reintegrating: AANHPI Mental Health, Compulsion, and True North

In this workshop, we will explore the core narratives that shape our identities as part of the Filipinx diaspora, deconstructing inherited frameworks like utang ng loob and their impact on work, worth, and relationships. Through the lens of decolonization and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we will examine how these narratives contribute to cycles of compulsion, obligation, and burnout.

Together, we will co-create pathways toward a more aligned and authentic sense of self—one that honors our cultural heritage while allowing for deeper self-compassion, intentionality, and personal freedom. Participants will leave with tools to navigate identity, relationships, and work with greater clarity and agency.

This workshop is for anyone seeking to:

    • Untangle colonial influences in their personal and professional life

    • Explore the intersection of mental health, work, and cultural identity

    • Reframe narratives of obligation and worth through ACT-based strategies

    • Cultivate a values-driven path toward their “true north”
