Skills Workshop - Speaking Your Story

The CYFAM Education Committee held a Skills Workshop - Speaking your Story, on Thursday, October 24, 2024. The event was split into two parts - a mini-lecture, followed by a breakout session into smaller groups to allow participants an opportunity to practice.

The lecture, prepared by CYFAM Education Committee Co-chairs Giuliana Lee and Jasmine Santos, provides helpful tips and a few frameworks to help formulate an answer to the most common interview question asked during med school interviews, residency interviews and beyond: “Tell me about yourself.” This portion of the event was recorded and is now uploaded in the CYFAM YouTube channel!

Before the breakout group session, attendees were given time to answer a worksheet to frame their responses. And in small groups, each attendee was given a safe space to share and get feedback on their rough drafts for how they would answer the question "tell me about yourself" or "why medicine/this specialization?" The practice portion of the event was not recorded to keep the attendees' answers private.
